Most people living in the U.S. must have a health care plan by January 1, 2014. If you do not, you will have to pay a new tax.
The window to buy a health care plan is between October 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014. You can buy a plan through the new government Marketplace or directly from an insurance company.
You might also be able to get the government to help pay for your health care plan.
If you buy your insurance on your own, keep doing it. However, you will have new plans to choose from beginning October 1, 2013 and you may be able to get help from the government to pay for part of your insurance plan.
If you have insurance through your job, you probably won’t need to do anything. Most companies will continue to offer insurance to their employees, but if you find that you need assistance shopping for a plan on your own, we would be happy to answer your questions. Come see us at a NHIA location or give us a call so we can discuss your options.
If you have Medicaid now, you do not need to do anything. But please be aware that if you buy any other type of health insurance, you may no longer be able to get Medicaid.
For information, call Medicaid at 1-866-762-2237.
If you have Medicare benefits today, those benefits will continue under health care reform.
